Inspirational Speaker & Entrepreneur
Frank Magwegwe is a vivid storyteller. He puts his hard learned lessons as an unemployed and homeless young man, in the early 1990s in downtown Johannesburg into the context of any organisation. Subsequently, his distinguished financial services career led to extensive experience in asset management, stock broking, derivatives trading and structuring, risk management and financial planning.
His message is motivational, highly relevant, inspirational and, most importantly, actionable.
Frank believes that there is no skill more crucial to the success of a leader, the leadership of a nation and its prosperity than reading. He believes that successful leaders make reading an indispensable part of improving their personal and professional life.
One of Frank’s favorite quotes is this Henry S. Truman quote: “Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.”
Frank advises, writes, speaks and comments on leadership, investments, financial planning, financial literacy and related matters.
As the Middle Market Segment Executive at Momentum Retail, Frank is responsible for growing the company’s market share in this segment. He has held various positions at Momentum including CEO: Momentum Administration Services. Prior to joining Momentum, Frank was Head of Institutional Business at Investment Solutions, South Africa’s largest multi-manager where he was responsible for overseeing all the day-to-day activities of the institutional business of the company.
In 2001, after a successful career as a risk manager and derivatives trader, Frank founded Foremost Futures, the first black-owned South African Futures Exchange (SAFEX) member. Foremost Futures was Frank’s second stint as an entrepreneur. During 1992/3, Frank ran a very successful fruit and vegetable business at the corner of Plein and Wanderers Streets in downtown Johannesburg. This success allowed Frank to save enough money to fund his first year studies at Wits University in 1994.
Frank graduated from Wits University in 1996 with a BSc in Mathematical Sciences and Mathematical Statistics. He went to earn a first class BSc (Hons) in Advanced Mathematics of Finance from the same institution. In 2002, Frank completed an MSc (cum laude) in Financial Mathematics at the University of Pretoria. His dissertation was titled “Modelling Default-Risky Bonds” and he examined the structural and reduced-form models used to value default-risky bonds.
